North Carolina-based Piedmont Airlines was known as the Up and Coming Airline for its growth from a small regional carrier to one of the United States Majors (revenue greater than billion) in a few short years following deregulation. An early customer for the 737, the airline would go on to become the worlds largest 737 operator by the late 1980s, prior to its buyout by and merger with USAir. This decal provides the markings for the final full Piedmont color scheme for the 737-300 fleet, of which 42 of the type wore these colors (two were delivered in USAirs Rust scheme).
